As the neurotech ecosystem grows, a new layer of enabling technology is taking shape. London-based MintNeuro is building part of that infrastructure, developing semiconductor chips for neural sensing, processing, and stimulation. The Imperial College London spinout has already begun translating the technology into commercial partnerships, including with Motif Neurotech and Amber Therapeutics.

Today, MintNeuro announced a $5 million investment round to move its silicon from validation towards commercial scale. The round was led by Odyssey Ventures, with participation from 33East, JSK Investments, and Alumni Ventures, alongside returning investors Empirical Ventures and Jumpspace Ventures. The funding will support a product launch, delivery of pre-release silicon to partners, expansion of engineering and commercial teams, and building a presence in the US.

Scaling Neural Semiconductors

MintNeuro is developing a modular semiconductor platform for neural devices. Its chips handle core functions including sensing, signal processing, and stimulation, and are designed around the power, size, safety, and signal-quality constraints that shape implantable systems.

“Every neural device depends on the chips inside it. Today, most device and therapy developers still have to choose between generic components that were never designed for the body and years of custom chip development,” says MintNeuro CEO Dorian Haci.

MintNeuro offers the middle road, giving developers access to specialised neural chips without requiring them to build a semiconductor stack internally.

The company last raised funding in 2024, when £1 million was directed at advancing the underlying silicon roadmap. MintNeuro has now moved that roadmap to working silicon, including its MN100 neural sensing chip and MN200 stimulation chip.

“Neural devices such as BCIs represent one of the most exciting frontier technology opportunities today, and significant value will accrue to those solving the foundational infrastructure challenges that stand between innovation and widespread adoption,” says Odyssey Ventures founding partner Michelle Robson.

Building a Shared Chip Layer

Earlier this year, MintNeuro signed a multi-year supply agreement with Motif Neurotech, covering chips across its preclinical and clinical development. Motif is developing a miniature, wirelessly powered implant initially targeting treatment-resistant depression. In that design, reducing power consumption and device size are particularly important.

“Motif is developing an extremely small therapeutic implant, so every cubic millimetre and every microwatt matters,” Haci told Neurofounders. MintNeuro’s chips provide the sensing and stimulation capabilities behind that architecture, while Motif focuses on the implant architecture, therapy, and clinical programme.

The relationship sits within ARIA’s £69 million Precision Neurotechnologies programme. MintNeuro and Motif are part of Brain Mesh, a £4.7 million project with Rice University developing networks of ultra-small wireless neural implants.

MintNeuro is also working with Amber Therapeutics, a UK company developing an implantable neuromodulation device for women’s mixed urinary incontinence.

“We believe neurotech will increasingly move towards shared infrastructure layers, especially at the semiconductor level,” Haci says. Mint has announced that several neural-device companies are actively evaluating its technology.
