SPR Therapeutics (now commercialising as SPR Pain Relief) is a Cleveland, Ohio-based medical device company developing the Sprint Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS) System for the treatment of chronic and post-surgical pain. The Sprint System is an FDA-cleared temporary implantable device consisting of a small percutaneous lead placed near a peripheral nerve using ultrasound guidance and connected to a small external pulse generator worn by the patient.
Unlike permanent implantable SCS or PNS systems, the Sprint lead is designed to be implanted for 60 days and then removed without surgery, with studies demonstrating that many patients maintain durable pain relief well beyond the treatment period — a 'carryover' effect that distinguishes temporary PNS from conventional neuromodulation. The system targets chronic low back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, and post-amputation pain.
The Sprint System's temporary, minimally invasive architecture addresses a critical gap between conservative pharmacological treatment and permanent implant surgery, enabling a reversible trial that may also provide lasting benefit.
