The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) is a US federal agency established in 2022 under the Department of Health and Human Services. Modeled on DARPA, it provides non-dilutive funding through program managers with high autonomy to support transformative biomedical research that cannot proceed through traditional channels. ARPA-H funds are milestone-based contracts (Cooperative Agreements and Other Transactions), not grants.

The agency operates across three hubs: Washington D.C. (federal coordination), Boston (investor catalyst), and Dallas (customer experience). Its scope spans molecular to societal level challenges. Neurotechnology programs are embedded across multiple Mission Offices, especially in areas like precision psychiatry, neural interfaces, non-invasive brain monitoring, and AI-enabled health tools.

Total appropriations have exceeded $4B since launch. ARPA-H is particularly relevant for neurotech companies that have promising technology but face a gap between early science and commercial readiness.
